The Young People's Satellite Network
(1979-1980)

Nicknames: "Yes, Nick existed in the 70s!", "Nickelodeon Before SpongeBob", Nickelodeon Machine

ID: The camera zooms in at a table with a nickelodeon at the top. Then, we see a boy putting his eyes on a pair of goggles. The camera fades to the first Nickelodeon logo, which shows a man looking at a nickelodeon machine on top of the N.

FX/SFX: Live action.

Music/Sounds: The clicks of the nickelodeon, and the announcer, Phil Tonken, saying "Introducing... Nickelodeon. Children's programming that's fit for children. 14 hours of programming a day, 7 days a week that will make them wonder, laugh, ponder, and think."

Later Music/Sounds Variant: A piano tune, which sounds like something played over a silent film, now plays, and the announcer says "We took everything that was wrong with children's television and got rid of it. We kept everything that was good about it and made it better. The result is Nickelodeon, the Young People's Satellite Network."

Availability: Extinct. It was only used for one year very early in the channel's existence as Nickelodeon. In fact, this ID's very existence was not known until a couple of years ago, when a video of both variants was uploaded to YouTube.

Editor's Note: The irony of this logo's narration will also make you laugh. However, this ID is a really fascinating example of early Nickelodeon.

Nickelodeon Mime
(1980-1981)

ID: We see a mime performing an act. The text "Nickelodeon" in the font used in the show "Pinwheel" appears one way or another.

Variants: As this appears between the programming, Nickelodeon switched around the acts that the mime does, at various lengths depending on how long it took for Nickelodeon to start the next program. Some found variants include:

The mime taking off his hat and making a funny face with the text fading in. Then the picture shrinks onto the magazine. Afterwards, the mime pulls down the magazine, winking at us once his head is visible. Then, he resumes reading it.
The mime doing tricks with his eyes, with the text fading in on his hat.
The mime's hat with his hand hiding under the hat. His fingers rise the hat to wave, and after the text fades in, sets the hat down.
Another variant involves the mime finding a broom, putting his hat onto it, and dancing with it. The text fades in when he starts dancing.

FX/SFX: Live action.

Music/Sounds: Just a rendition of Teresa Brewer's 1950 hit song "Music, Music, Music!".

Music/Sounds Variants:

Sometimes, a jazz-like version of the music was used.
On the hat variant, a narrator says "Nickelodeon. Innovative, non-commercial, cable television programming for young people. Kids are finally getting the kind of television they deserve."

Availability: Same as above. However, recently, a bunch of these IDs began to surface on YouTube.

Editor's Note: Like the previous ID, it's another fascinating example of early Nickelodeon, especially how the ID was used before commercials were introduced.

Silver Ball in the Air (Neon City)

(1981-1985)

ID: A silver ball is seen moving to the viewer on a black background (with maroon on the bottom), It flashes and turns black with flashing neon effects inside the ball. Another ball looking the same appears next to it on the left, which then shows a sparkly neon area where the 2 balls are moving to the back which another one appears on the left of the 1st ball. Then it cuts to the top with the sparkly neon intact and Another ball appears on the bottom. Then it goes back to the normal camera angle it started off with the balls moving, and 2 more balls are on the left and right which then all form a line as they speed through a sparkly neon city. It then goes to a black background and all 6 balls form into one big ball which turns out to be the silver ball with neon lines inside it, then the word "NiCKELODEON" spinning to it.

FX/SFX: A combination of hand-drawn animation and Scanimate effects (mostly the latter). Pretty good for the early 1980s.

Music/Sounds: A very funky tune with a male singer and female back singers, and this was the main theme to the channel itself. The lyrics are widely in debate, but go something like this: "Come along (Come along) we can find, a world of magic (Come along, come along) come along, we can make, the world your friend! Silver baaaalllll in the air, See it glllllooooow everywhere! Nickelodeonroundroundandroundherewego! Nickelooodeon!"

Availability: When Nickelodeon changed their ID to the "splat" design, it became extinct very fast. It was mainly used as a sign-off ident.

ID: We see a silver coin on a live action pavement as a bike passes by. Then a human hand picks up the silver coin and flicks it which turns into the usual silver ball and sky background. The silver ball opens up to reveal a fish bowl, which then opens up to reveal a mirrored ball with a fiddler juggling, and this continues to form our planet earth, footage of a motorway, footage of sky, a snow globe and then the Silver Ball again, which flashes as usual with the neon lines inside and the word"NiCKELODEON" spinning to it.

FX/SFX: Mainly live action footage

Music/Sounds: A different version of the channel's main theme at the time. The lyrics are also different, going "Look around, we can find; a world of magic! Look around, we can make; the world your friend! Silver baaaalllll in the air, See it glllllooooow everywhere! Nickelodeonroundroundandroundherewego! Nickelooodeon!"

ID: A kid puts a quarter into an arcade machine. The silver ball appears in the game, stunning the kid. The silver ball avoids the enemies and pretty soon, turns them all into silver balls, and the Nickelodeon logo appears.

Nickname: "Bouncing Pinball"

ID: We see a small silver ball emerging from a tube then going down a slide. It then bounces off a trampoline, then goes down various tubes and tunnels. It thengoes up in a balloon and falls. It comes up in a water spurt and, before zooming up and becoming cartoon, the word "Nick" zooms out over it and then "Nickelodeon" zooms in. There are lots of other variants.

FX/SFX: Live action by C.D. Taylor.

Music/Sounds: A bouncy-type Moog synthesizer tune.

Nick's Top Of The Hour

(1985-1993, 2001)

ID: On a living room, we see a TV imprinted by the Nickelodeon ID with various shapes emerging from it, before a parody of Salvador Dali's "Persistence of Memory" appears with several Nickelodeon clocks melting after spinning its hands, then some flying calendars with Nickelodeon on the top of each calendar on a house background changing seasons from possibly summer to winter, then to a 20th Century Fox styled structure with 1985 or 1986 (depending on the year) on the top with the Nickelodeon ID on it. Then, a road appears and then a Nickelodeon arrow sign. We cut to a road with men racing in hot dog-shaped karts, each with a Nickelodeon bun, then to a futuristic city with a Nickelodeon rocket-ship passing by. Then, various people with different types of clothes and accessories, as well as a Nickelodeon heart beating once, a robot with human ears, an early Nickelodeon haystack ID, and a gorilla wearing a tuxedo whose bow tie spins once. Then, an ice cream cone appears with a Nickelodeon ice cream scoop falling directly on it, then to a cat and a dog on bumper cars, but accidentally collide into each other to say "Nickelodeon" on the bottom of the bumper cars, then to a little fish that is eaten by several bigger fish consecutively with the largest reading Nickelodeon, then we cut to a front seat ride on a roller coaster as it goes into a clown head with eyes moving side to side. Finally, we cut to the same Nickelodeon television with the same objects emitted. There is also a couple in space-like attire as well as a robotic dog watching it, then the Nickelodeon ID jumps out of the TV and fills the entire screen and landing as a polygon with spikes on a blue background.

Variant: In 1987, the whole animation was changed to a completely new animation featuring a blue DJ with TV lollipops & animals.

FX/SFX: A mix of 2D animation and live action from Jerry Lieberman. The 1987-1988 version by International-Rocketship has 2D animation fully, though.

Music/Sounds: First, we hear a part of the Nick theme, then we hear scats through the entire bumper until we hear the rest of similar tune used at the beginning. Occasionally, a voice-over is heard throughout the bumper.

Availability: Extinct on TV. Its music in this bumper can be heard on the 2001 CD The Newest Nicktoons. It can also be found at the ViacomCBS Archives at One Astor Plaza in New York.

Big Beast Quintet

Nickname: "That Song That Plays When NickSplat Starts"

ID: We see an alligator, bird, rhino, rabbit, and some other kind of animal walking down a street wearing Nickelodeon shirts all mixed up. Then they change it to make it spell right. They gather inside a TV with a face on it as the Nickelodeon shirts merge together. Then they keep walking down the street.

Variant: In a 1994 commercial for Nickelodeon, the animals are walking on a globe and at the end of the commercial, when they gather into the TV set, they become live-action children.

FX/SFX: All the animation in the logo. This was designed by Colossal Pictures (now W!ldbrain).

Music/Sounds: The animals singing some kind of chant leading into how Nickelodeon is #1 which is like "Hon de laud hup hivvel up Nick, Hon de laud hup hivvel up Nick Nick, Hon de rikki tikki lo y living #1 Nickelodeon!".

Availability: Extinct. However, it made a cameo in a promo for The 90's Are All That (now NickRewind) on TeenNick, along with many other IDs. It can be found at the ViacomCBS Archives at One Astor Plaza in New York. The music can also be found on the 1998 and 2001 CDs entitled The Best of Nicktoons and The Newest Nicktoons. Now currently airs (as of December 2nd, 2015) on NickRewind, and it usually airs as their sign-on.

ID: We see shadow figures of three children looking into the night sky. A firecracker (which looks like a comet streak) passes by them and we pan up into space, Then the firecracker bounces off of an astronaut, then a satellite, and finally, the moon, who has a very angry look, before it shoots up into the sky, and then explodes into several fireworks. "NICKELODEON" in its familiar font forms. A more common version starts at the firecracker shooting into the sky.

ID: The letters in the Nickelodeon logo atop a dressing room door drop down one by one and sneak around the room until they are spotted with a flashlight in front of a brick wall. They then return to the sign.

Music/Sounds: The voices of the letters whispering.

Pattycake

ID: We see two silhouettes with orange outlines playing pattycake on the moon in outer space (we also see Earth in the background). The silhouettes then change colors. The silhouettes clap hands two times, and four orange hands appear on screen. When they clap hands again, they disappear, and Nickelodeon appears on the four orange hands.

FX/SFX: 2D animation. This was done by Charlex in New York.

Music/Sounds: A short rap rhythm.

ID: On a white background, a grilled cheese sandwich with orange cheese on a light blue-violet plate slides in from the left. Suddenly it melts and the cheese oozes and leaks out of the bread. The screen pans down to reveal the Nickelodeon text that the melted cheese made.

FX/SFX: Claymation.

Music/Sounds: The sandwich being served, a group of kids saying "mmm" when the sandwich appears and then "ewww" when it begins to melt along with disgusted noises (although some of the kids are heard grinning and still saying "mmm") and the sandwich melting.

ID: We see a purple person channel surfing on a 1960's style TV. A wing-like creature stops near the person and winks at the viewer. The creature jumps into the TV and has the Nickelodeon logo on the TV tube. Then the person rides the creature and flies to a front view of the logo, while the creature flaps his wings.

FX/SFX: All of the animation in this bumper.

Music/Sounds: A kind of bored music when the person changes the channel, complete with TV static. When the creature appears, it becomes a bit more dramatic, and when it flies into the TV, it turns into a more dramatic tune which is accompanied by a flying wings.

ID: On a black background, we see a Nickelodeon cup. We zoom out to reveal that it is on a face's tongue, and the face uses its nose to drink it. Then, we turn around to see that there are Nickelodeon fish in the face.

Music/Sounds: A brass theme along with some cartoon sound effects, grunts from the face while it drinks, and the sounds of bubbles popping when we see the fish.

Fruits
(1986-1993, 2001)

ID: On a curtain background with a towel below, we see a fruit cup reading Nickelodeon. Suddenly, a pineapple, banana, and an orange pop up singing the same thing from the Orange You Glad ID. They dance backwards and the curtain opens up to reveal a gradient background with palm trees that are reading Nickelodeon. The fruits fall off miserably at the end leaving us with a splat. Then, the splat that the fruits made appears along with the fruits themselves now splatted up smiling and the splat entirely reads Nickelodeon in between.

Variant: A variant exists where it is on a flipbook expect that there is no colors draw onto it expect for the orange on the stuff that have the Nickelodeon logo on it. This was possibly when the ID was unfinished when this was filmed.

Music/Sounds: Same as the Orange You Glad ID.

ID: We see a waiter opening up a dish. When it opens up, it reveals an Eskimo sitting on a chair with a fishing rod under a Nickelodeon umbrella. The dish closes and it opens up again. A hippo eats grass while wearing a Nickelodeon cloth. It closes and opens one more time to show a male Viking with weapons in his hands and sing-screams Opera-style with a Nickelodeon banner. The dish is closed harder with a Nickelodeon shaped like a weight.

FX/SFX: Stop-motion animation. This was done at Olive Jar Films in Boston, MA.

Music/Sounds: The dish opens, the Eskimo singing, the hippo laughing with drum music, the Viking yelling and a loud crashing sound.

Availability: Extinct. However, the scene with the Viking screaming can be seen on a promo for NickRewindon TeenNick, and also as its sign-off when it was The Splat.

ID: We see a golf club hit a orange Nickelodeon golf ball. The ball goes through a course full of obstacles that have signs that read "Nickelodeon" such as a inverted loop, a windmill, winding road, stomping Nickelodeon feet, and finally a hole shaped like a clown and rolls into its mouth.

FX/SFX: Stop motion animation. Possibly done at Olive Jar Films.

Music/Sounds: A man saying "Shhhh...", followed by pinball type music, cartoon swooshing noises, and kids crying "WHEEE!" and "Yay!" when the ball makes it into the hole.

ID: On the orange live-action decorate background, we see the "NICKELODEON" text in its famous font. There are 2 worms, then another, then it repeats another time. Then, the lot of small blue worms are appearing. Then, all worms moving until they form multicolored "Boom" shape with the text inside. Then, the text transforming into worms, are they starting make the circle effect, "arguing" and finally, be inside like if the worms was in the dot. They collapse and making the lines on the background (now without the white text).

This was made by Eli Noyes, who also made "Eureeka's Castle" TV series for Nickelodeon and its Nick Jr. block.
This was the first ID with an orange logo.

ID: We see a pair of hands holding a clapboard and clapping it, saying "Quiet please". Then a cat that looks like Cat from CatDog runs into a blue room and crashes into a camera as we hear a guy saying "NEXT!" He then turns to the left of the room, where there's a desk that a hand wearing a striped shirt is behind, writing on a sheet of paper. He asks, "Name?" The cat says "Mack!" The guy says, "What've you got?" Mack replies, "Whatever you want! Need a new host for Double Dare?" He pulls his nose and changes his face into that of Marc Summers'. The guy says "no". Mack extends the nose and puts his hand down the nostril. He says "Ha ha! I can be an obstacle, too!" He changes back to his normal self as the guy says "We've already got that." Mack says "You got this?" He pulls down a film projector and we go into a black and white scene of a boy petting Mack, in color, who looks like a dog. Mack sings "Lassie!" and scratches the boy. Mack pulls up the projector, back in the room, and the guy says "disgusting!" "Oh, you want disgusting?" Mack asks. "I'll show you disgusting!" He expands like a balloon and explodes, leaving the camera covered with orange clay. The hand wipes away to reveal his face, a Koopa-like character wearing glasses, and says "I like it!" He licks the clay as the scene cuts to show the Nickelodeon splat logo on the wall, and a voiceover says "Nickelodeon: working hard to find what you want."

The Only Network for Kids

(1988)

ID: Against a white background, a guy who resembles a middle-age version of Bill Nye the Science Guy is shown, as a kid offscreen says "Hey! What're you doing here? You must really like Dennis the Menace, huh?" At this point, we cut to see the guy in greyscale looking like Dennis the Menace. The guy shakes his head. "How about Lassie?" the kid asks, and we see the guy (in color) wearing a fake dog nose and ears. "You like Lassie?" The guy shakes his head again. "Well, you must be a real fan of Mr. Wizard," the kid says, at which the guy is against a black background, wearing safety goggles, with one of those energy ball things. He touches it and receives a static electric shock which messes up his hair. He shakes his head once again. Then we see him against the white background again, wearing Double Dare contestant getup. "Uh, how about Double Dare?" the kid asks. The guy lifts up a baseball mitt only to get an egg thrown at him, and shakes his head. "Looney Tunes?" the kid asks as the guy has an ACME-branded bomb next to him, which explodes and leaves him charred. He shakes his head, and the kid asks "You Can't Do That on Television?" as the guy raises his hands and gets slimed. "Well you're in the wrong place, Pops," the kid says, "because this is Nickelodeon." A Nickelodeon arrow pushes the guy out of the way. "The only network for kids," says the kid as the words appear below the arrow.

Nick is Kids

ID: We see the Nickelodeon splat logo pulsating against a purple background. It cuts to dark images of Nick series and stars. Then we see a Nickelodeon oval, and the image blurs. We see more footage. Then we see the Nick splat again, and it stops pulsating. A red-colored circle that reads "is kids" appears below the logo.

FX/SFX: The pinching/punching and rippling effect of the Nickelodeon logo and fading in and out of the footage.

Variant: A variant exists with the footage of the kids replaced with black and white footage of Nicktoons.

Music/Sounds: Almost throughout the entire ID, we hear a heartbeat. We also hear an idea/lightbulb sound effect but sounding a bit stuttering. We then hear a man saying "Nick is" and then ambience and little swooshing noises can be heard and then we hear the man again saying the same line and then we hear what sounds like ambiance noise of a door closing several times until a small bang is heard which abruptly stops the heartbeat and then we hear the man saying "kids".

FX/SFX: Early CGI animation. This was done by Edward Bakst.

Music/Sounds: A weird brass theme when the spoon taps the egg, then a sample of the 1867 Modest Mussorgsky composition A Night On Bald Mountain starting when the egg becomes the monster. Low pitched grunts/roars from the monster egg (as well as chuckling when he starts to swallow the screen) and squawking from the chicken spoon are also heard.

Nick is Everyday

ID: On a white background, the words "EVERY DAY" appear and fade out as dancing silhouettes drop down. They disappear as a Nickelodeon sun fades into the center of the screen while it flashes. "MON" to "SUN" appear one by one with an animation corresponding to it. After each animation, the screen fades out and in to the next one. Then the words "NICK", "IS", "EVERY DAY" on purple, green, and blue backgrounds flash by. The Nickelodeon splat logo zooms in. We fade to black and see a green stick figure falling from the top of the screen saying "Nick is every day!"

FX/SFX: Cut-out animation.

Music/Sounds: Minimal (that is, low and synthesized) jazz music and the guy saying "Nick is every day!" at the end (Marc Summers from Double Dare.)

Nickname: "It's Nickelodeon Month!"

ID: Against a background reading "Nickelodeon", the three guys from the Easy Groove bumper sing "Nick-nick-nick-nick-na-nick-nick-nick!" next to the parrot from the Dog & Parrot bumper and its Nickelodeon speech bubble. The kid on the Flying TV Monster flies into the screen, revealing the Fruits, the Nicktoons Blob, the Doo-Wop Dinos, and a cowboy with a Nick hat riding a horse all walking by. The tuxedo Frog and an insect type creature wearing a mask and holding 3 tv tubes on sticks stop to dance. A TV set comes into frame as we see the three guys singing again, this time with a purple pterodactyl flying past them. A lizard on a skateboard wearing a shirt strikingly similar to Rocko the wallaby's (but with bones instead of triangles) skates in opposite direction and in the very back of the screen as another lizard with black hair and a tux walks past. Three frogs and a Nick frog appear consecutively as the tux lizard chases them. Then we cut to the Anteater eating in front of a live action street background. The Nicktoons Blob, the Fruits, the fish, and the Doo-Wop Dinos all walk to the left as the background changes to the stop motion dinosaur in front of a TV in space with a Nickelodeon planet on it. Then we see a waiter opening up a dish to show a male Viking with weapons in his hands and screaming with a Nickelodeon banner. The dish is closed with a Nickelodeon shaped anvil. It turns into a Nick teacup that the CGI head from the Nick Brew ID drinks against a cartoon street background. The Nicktoons Blob walks by, and two dogs in blue and green Nick cars bump into each other. We see the three guys again, with the Fruits, the Doo-Wop Dinos, and the cowboy on his horse walk to the right, and the Nickelodeon splat logo above them. The tuxedo Frog again dances as the three guys sing "Nick-nick-nick-nick-na-nick-nick-nick! Nickelodeon!" Then the bumper ends in the style of an old TV turning off.

Trivia: During the Nostalgia Critic's "Nickelodeon Month" of January 2009, this bumper was used as the intro, but with the Nostalgia Critic inserted into it.

Variant: At the end of Nickelodeon VHS tapes or music videos, the end of the bumper only played.

FX/SFX: A mix of 2D animation, stop motion animation, and CGI.

Music/Sounds: The three guys singing, a remix of the Nick jingle, some sitar music, and the guys singing again, as well as sound effects as to what happens in the bumper.

Availability: Rare. It was on most Nickelodeon VHS tapes of the time by Sony Wonder, including Rocko's Modern Life: Machine Madness, Rugrats: Tales from the Crib, Ren & Stimpy: The Classics, Doug: How Did I Get into This Mess, and others. It played right before the show started. The short version played at the end of the tape. The Paramount re-releases of these tapes lack this bumper. On the channel itself, it would show right before a music video. It will probably appear on TeenNick's NickRewindsoon enough.

ID: There are many.

Variants:

Rugrats #1: We see a giant eye watching a Nickelodeon caterpillar. The camera zooms out to reveal it's Chuckie Finster, and he scrambles to get the caterpillar off him until it turns into a Nickelodeon butterfly.
Rugrats #2: Angelica Pickles sings into a microphone. The white background shatters to reveal an orange one with the Nickelodeon logo, and Angelica walks away.
Rugrats #3: Reptar stomps onscreen and roars. Then he hears another dinosaur and gets scared, and we see it's a Nickelodeon dinosaur.
Rugrats #4: Tommy and Dil Pickles are having a fight over the Nick logo and tug at it until they both let go of it and it turns into the splat logo.
Ren & Stimpy: Ren is in a Nickelodeon bathtub and hears something making bubbles. He lifts his leg and Stimpy jumps out of the tub.
Doug: Doug Funnie and Porkchop are carrying a Nickelodeon rectangle. Doug drops the rectangle on his foot and Porkchop runs over.
Hey Arnold: Helga Pataki passes a Nickelodeon ball to the other kids, ending with Arnold Shortman, who hits it with a baseball bat sending it crashing into the screen.
Angry Beavers: Norb and Dag rip off their undergarments until Dag rips his underwear off. He uses a Nickelodeon towel to cover up him and Norb.
CatDog: They chase after a garbage truck and Dog eats all the garbage, leaving them deformed. Cat vomits which forms the Nickelodeon logo.
SpongeBob: He tries to blow a Nickelodeon bubble, but fails. So he swallows the bubble and spits it out through his pores. This results in a giant Nickelodeon bubble.
Fairly OddParents: Cosmo and Wanda are in black and white, and they change themselves to color. They then notice they're standing behind a black and white Nickelodeon heart, and they change that to color too.
As Told by Ginger: Ginger Foutley, Dodie, and Macie are dancing until Courtney Gripling and Miranda Killgalen show up. Suddenly, orange splat water balloons are thrown by Carl and Hoodsey, forming the Nickelodeon logo, leading everyone to leave the scene except Ginger, who chases after Carl and Hoodsey.
The Wild Thornberrys: Eliza Thornberry and Darwin are running from a Nick rhino, which Donnie is riding the tail of.
Rocket Power: Reggie Rocket is roller-skating, Otto's on a bike, and Twister and Sam are skateboarding. They all join together and crash into a wall, leaving an orange imprint of themselves with the Nick logo on it.
Pelswick: Pelswick rides his wheelchair over orange hills, which turns out to be the Nickelodeon splat logo.
Jimmy Neutron: The Rugrats #3 bumper, but the Nickelodeon dinosaur's top opens up to reveal Jimmy Neutron and Goddard piloting it.
Jimmy Neutron #2: The Wild Thornberrys bumper, but the rhino is instead a rocket piloted by Jimmy and Goddard, leaving a trail of orange smoke with the Nick logo on it.

FX/SFX: The animation, provided by the same studio that animates the Nicktoons.

Music/Sounds: Depends. It's usually the theme song of the show, culminating in the familiar Nick jingle, as well as sound effects that correspond to what happens in the bumper. However, the Fairly OddParents bumper does not use the Nick jingle.

Availability: Extinct, as these shows don't air on Nick anymore. However, the first Rugrats bumper was shown on NickRewindduring a break in July 2017, and the Angry Beavers bumper was shown on NickRewind’sTwitter account during Throwback Thursday. The SpongeBob bumper, according to RetroJunk, aired well into 2007. It's unknown if this is the same case with the Fairly OddParents bumper. The Jimmy Neutron bumpers were only used in 2001 to promote the film.

ID: We see a conductor with long hair, glasses, a mustache, and a little beard (Josh Server) on a stage as he uses his baton to start the show. Then it zooms out on a lady with big orange hair that reads Nickelodeon wearing purple (Lori Beth Denberg) singing the Nickelodeon theme. It briefly closes up to her mouth. Then we see her whole body as she loudly sings "Nick is kids!" Then we see the conductor with a hysterical look on his face as his glasses break from the high mote.

FX/SFX: All live-action. This was designed by the now-defunct Blue-Brick Design in New York City.

Music/Sounds: Orchestra tuning up until after the conductor begins the show then the lady sings with an orchestral number in the background.

Pinchface

ID: In a very psychedelic, pop art-inspired "room", we see to the right two picture frames with two fists made to look like faces (wearing a hat, some googly eyes, and painted-on "lips") and to the left a picture frame with the Nick logo in it. Two eyes, glasses, dentures and a tie drop down to the middle of the screen and float and bounce around while remaining in place to look like a face. As the colors of the background and even the Nick picture frame continually flash and change throughout the bumper, the fists do the "Nick Nick Nick" section of the Nickelodeon theme, with the Pinchface saying "Nickelodeon" (as it does this, the picture frame reads "Nickelodeon" instead of "Nick"). After the second time the Pinchface says "NickelOOOOOOdeOOOOON!", an orange background with "Nickelodeon" on it flashes three times.

Variant: At one point, this was used as a sign-off bumper for Nickelodeon. After the face says "Nickelodeon" the second time, it cuts to color bars.

FX/SFX: A very creative combination of chroma-key effects, pixillation, and puppetry, with the Pinchface moved by threads (this is more visible on higher-quality uploads of this ident). This was done by Blue Brick Design.

Music/Sounds: A funky-sounding Balkan brass rendition of the Nickelodeon theme. The Pinchface is voiced by veteran voice actor Tom Kenny.

Availability: Extinct. It reappeared in a bumper for the 2011 Nickelodeon block The 90's Are All That (now NickRewind) on TeenNick. It's on NickRewind's promo "A Tribute to Nickelodeon Bumpers" for a few seconds, too. It's also on a 1994 Earth Day promo for Nickelodeon.

Funky Dance

ID: We see a group of kids in a circle as a guy sings "Everybody over here". Then the Nickelodeon theme plays. The kids start to dance while carrying a Nickelodeon parachute as they walk in a circle. Two kids jump over the parachute as the rest of them dance. Then they cover themselves in the Nickelodeon parachute.

FX/SFX: Live-action.

Music/Sounds: The guy singing the Nickelodeon theme.

ID: A bunch of ants are on a picnic blanket bloated with all the food eaten (i.e cheese, and a sandwich). One plays a guitar and another sticks out of a can with a night cap on as they all sing the Nickelodeon theme while some ants hiccup. A quarter of the presented food have Nick or Nickelodeon in them. At the end, it zooms out so that we can read the word "Nickelodeon" on the picnic blanket.

FX/SFX: All the animation in the ID.

Music/Sounds: All the ants singing the Nickelodeon theme with a guitar playing in the background.

Trivia: The music was later reused in another Nick bumper featuring a girl and her dog.

ID: On a black background, we see a Nickelodeon logo, which folds into a white screen covered in little dancing people slides in over, which is constantly shaking. After a moment, the screen transitions into a close up of four of the aforementioned people, whose heads are different shapes. (A nickel, a sack or load, an "E", and a light bulb that turns on. It's a pun: "Nickel-Load-E-ON"). Then it wipes to the Nick logo which also shakes a bit.

FX/SFX: Cut-out animation.

Music/Sounds: A heavy metal jingle plays throughout almost the entire bumper. A voice shouting "Come on now!" and other things, and the people yelling "Nick-Nick-Nick...". At the end, the guy screams "Nick is kids!"

Availability: Extinct, unless it appears on NickRewind.

Barnyard

ID: We see all kinds of animals and objects on a toy farm set. At each scene, the Nickelodeon logo is right at the top of the screen in the form of orange clouds. A bunch of kids sing the Nickelodeon theme. A pause occurs with a frog croaking and a bunch of cartoon sounds. Then the kids resume the song by saying "Nick is kids!" followed by a chicken clucking.

FX/SFX: Just live-action of a bunch of toys from a farm set.

Music/Sounds: The kids singing and the animal noises with bluegrass twang in the background.

Nicktoons Blob

ID: An orange drip of slime falls, then when it hits the ground, it forms the former Nicktoons logo, then it forms into various transformations, a fish, a dinosaur, and a guy. The guy slips on a banana and forms the Nicktoons splat.

Variants:

When this appeared on Nick Rewind in 2006, the last few seconds of the ID were replaced by a 2D Nickelodeon splat.
On some prints of the Oh Yeah! Cartoons Fairly Odd Parents short "Where's the Wand", the ID starts out normal, but it goes to the the guy transformation. The executive producers' credit (which reads "Executive Producers: Fred Seibert, Larry Huber") appears, then the title card for the short appears.
When The 90s Are All That became The Splat, the logo made a huge comeback as becoming a bumper. Every time between the logo transforming, the Nicktoons logo is replaced by The Splat logo, which is on a pink background with patterns everywhere.

Trivia: The voice of the guy is Billy West, best known as the voice of Doug Funnie.

FX/SFX: CGI from Blue Sky.

Music/Sounds: A 90's like theme with sound effects for each transformation. In the variant, it sounds the same but with most of the sound effects are removed. The music continues to the title card.

Availability: On Nickelodeon itself, it was extinct for a long time, first seen on The 90's Are All That (now NickRewind) on December 31, 2011. The variant only appeared in some prints of the Oh Yeah! Cartoons Fairly Odd Parents short "Where's the Wand". The part where the guy slips on a banana peel was used in the beginning of a promo for Nicktoons tapes on the VHS version of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. It returned to television on October 5, 2015. It can be seen on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxU42lwIFEo" target="_self">Nick</a>Rewind.

The face sees the viewer and it laughs in a weird way. The box suddenly closes and we zoom out.

The big chicken dances while trying to get the egg as we see a bunch of other chickens sing the Nickelodeon theme. Finally, he catches the Nickelodeon egg while holding up a basket with a bunch of Nickelodeon eggs in it.
