Background: Phoenix Pictures is a production company that was founded in 1995. Mike Medavoy, the company's founder, was formerly the CEO of TriStar Pictures; before that, he worked at United Artists, and was one of the UA defectors that helped launch Orion Pictures.

Nicknames: "The Match", "The Phoenix"

Logo: On a black background, a hand holds up a lit match, which brings forth a morning skyline background. We fade to a black screen with two flames which resembles a phoenix bird, as "PHOENIX PICTURES" forms below with "PICTURES" in spaced-out letters inside the orange rectangular box under "PHOENIX". A light shines behind the logo and the logo fades out (except for the bird, which turns into an outline before fading away).

Variants:

• A still version exists.
• At the end of Miss Potter (the beginning has the normal logo), a closing print logo puts the phoenix to the right side. Plus, "PICTURES" is not in the rectangular box.
  

FX/SFX: The sky, the flame (the match is live-action). It was created by Rainmaker Digital Pictures.

Music/Sounds: The striking of a match followed by a french horn-led fanfare, composed by John Ottman.

Music/Sounds Variants:

• Sometimes, it uses the opening theme of the movie with the sound of the striking of a match.
• On some movies like Whatever It Takes and U-Turn, the music is re-orchestrated.
• None for the still version.
• The closing theme of the movie for the closing print logo.

Availability: Common. Seen on films from the company such as Dick, The People vs. Larry Flint, The Mirror Has Two Faces (the first film to use this logo), U-Turn, Apt Pupil, Mad About Mambo, Urban Legend,and its sequel Urban Legends: Final Cut, The Thin Red Line, The 6th Day, Lake Placid, Basic, Miss Potter, All The King's Men, and What to Expect When You're Expecting. The still version was seen on the trailer for Miss Potter and at the end of License to Wed and Shutter Island. However, it doesn't appear on Holes,Black Swan and Zodiac (the movie posters and DVD covers have the print logo).The last movie to use this logo was the Chile release of The 33.(domestic prints use the next logo).

Nicknames: "The Match II", "The Phoenix II"

Logo: This logo is basically an updated version of the previous logo. It starts off exactly like before, but instead of a morning skyline, we see a desert with fast moving clouds and a bright sun. Then the logo appears just like before, but with lens flares added and a more colorful aura behind the logo. The logo fades out, except for the phoenix which fades into an outline once again.

FX/SFX: The live-action match footage, and the CGI desert and phoenix. A solid update to the previous logo.

Music/Sounds: Same as the previous logo.

Availability: So far, it's only seen on The 33 (the Chile release has the previous logo), but it will most likely be seen on future films from Phoenix Pictures.
