1st Logo
(1954-196?)
Logo: We see an image of a filmreel turning over a background of stylized apartment buildings. A circle appears, which has holes in a diamond pattern (representing a filmreel, obviously) with "KETC" in each hole, arranged like this:
"CHANNEL 9 ST. LOUIS" is shown below.
FX/SFX: The live-action filmreel, the fading in of the animated filmreel.
Music/Sounds: Just an announcer saying "Produced by KETC.".
Availability: Extinct on TV, but parts of it (and the other logos up to the 4th one) were seen on the station's 50th anniversary special, Because of You: 50 Years of Channel 9.
Editor's Note: None.
2nd Logo
(196?-Late 1970s)
Variants:
FX/SFX: Just a still logo.
Music/Sounds: The closing theme of the show, and an announcer saying "This program was produced by KETC Television, St. Louis, Missouri.", or no announcer, or no closing theme.
Availability: Can be seen on shows like Letter People and Self Incorporated. The "FILM PRESENTATION" variant was featured on the station's 50th anniversary special, Because of You: 50 Years of Channel 9.
Editor's Note: None.
3rd Logo
(1976-1980)
Logo: Against a dark blue background, we see the letters "KETC" inside a segmented box, being formed from top to bottom, and flickering in different colors while it's sliding from the bottom right to the center of the screen. After some time, the logo flashes rainbow colors, and the background turns yellow, and the letters turn blue, following a bright flash on the screen. The call letters are sandwiched between "FROM" and "ST. LOUIS" ("FROM" colored cerulean blue, "ST. LOUIS" colored baby blue). Three stars then sparkle on the logo, and as it fades out, a light wipes from left to right on the logo.
FX/SFX: Early CGI light effects, plus the background changing.
Music/Sounds: A calm, soothing Moog synthesizer jingle.
Availability: Appeared on channel programs from the era, such as Airtime. It also made an appearance on the station's 50th anniversary special. If PBS puts out a DVD of either one of these shows, you might be lucky to find this logo.
Editor's Note: None.
4th Logo
(1978?-1988)
Logo: On a black background, the familiar red 9 logo slides from left to right, leaving a trail, starting off black with a red outline, but then filling in red when it almost comes to a stop. The text "KETC St. Louis" fades in above the logo.
Variant: On local programming, the red 9 animates as usual, zooms out, and new text appears, such as "Weekdays", "Tonight", etc., while three stars sparkle on the screen.
FX/SFX/Cheesy Factor: Early CGI, again.
Music/Sounds: Same as logo 3.
Availability: Seen only as a local bumper. It, like the first 3 logos also appeared on the anniversary special.
Editor's Note: None.
5th Logo
(1988-199?)
Music/Sounds: A quiet bell and horn theme with an announcer.
Availability: Extinct. Only used as a station ID.
Editor's Note: None.
