Background: Canal 9 is an Argentine television network based in Buenos Aires, formed in 1960 with the callsign LS 83. It began color broadcasting in 1980. Following a re-privatization, the station was renamed as "Canal 9 Libertad". In 1997 Australian broadcaster Prime Television bought all of the station, then onsold half of it for US$74 million. In response to a ratings fall, the channel rebranded massively from Canal 9 Libertad to Azul Televisión. The Azul brand lasted until 2002, when the channel reverted back to it's original name, Canal 9, and was acquired by Albavision in 2007. In 2017, it rebranded itself as "El Nueve" (or "The Nine", stylised as "elnueve")

Nicknames: "Icy 9"

Logo: On a blue striped background that appears to be moving upwards, the word "CANAL" in a white futuristic font, flies in and stretches into place. After it stops, bars of blue, each getting darker as it continues downward, flash onto the word. After the blue appears on the word, sparkles trace out a dark blue "9" with an arrow jutting out on the right, in which it fades later. An sparkle then appears on the "9" and rotates for the rest of the logo as broadcasting text appears in the bottom right corner.

Variants:Sometimes the logo will stay on screen for longer, due to the music coming in on the "9" drawing in.

FX/SFX: The background, the word appearing and flashing with blue, the "9" drawing, the text flashing.

Music/Sounds:
  • The later version has a 4-note organ tune with an echo can be heard at the beginning. An single note is played when the "9" is drawn in, followed by an ding and a synth drone at the end, along with the announcer saying the name.
  • The early version had an upbeat synth fanfare with the announcer being female this time.
  • The still version had none.

Logo: On a space background with stars shooting out from the center of the screen, an invisible globe with orange continents spins very quickly as an outline of Argentina zooms out to the left. The Canal 9 logo from before then zooms in to the light from the center. The broadcasting text from before then appears on the bottom right side of the screen, but with the city being referred to as "Bs. As. Argentina".

FX/SFX: The background, the globe spinning, the logo and map zooming.

Music/Sounds: An soft synth tune with an announcer. The still version had none.

Nicknames: "Space 9 II", "The Eye 9"

Logo: On a black background, 4 striped bars come in and intersect in between each other. A flash happens in the middle of the screen, revealing a space background with a "9" that has a green circle in the center, forming a bit of an eye shape. The "9" then comes spinning towards the screen as multiple stars flash in the background. As it stops, nearly taking up the whole screen, "L.S. 83 TV Canal 9" wipes in under the "9". This is followed by "Buenos Aires, Argentina" appear in sync with the music.

FX/SFX: The bars intersecting, along with the rotating model and the star.

Music/Sounds: An rising synth tune in which a 2 beat finish can be heard in time when the words appear, interrupting the announcer. One final repeat can be heard at the end.

1th Logo
(1984-1989)

Nicknames: "The Dove", "Birth of the Dove"

Logo: On a blue background, a large, realistic dove can be seen above a red "9" with an white outline on it. To the left is "LS 83 TV CANAL" and to the right is "LIBERTAD Buenos Aires Argentina".

Variant: Later on, the background would become like the first logo's background, but with the colors arranged into a different way to look a bit like the Argentina flag. The "9" would also become blue.

FX/SFX: None, it's still.

Music/Sounds: An trumpet fanfare with the announcer saying the broadcast info. Sometimes, there is no music.

2nd Logo
(1984-1991)

Nicknames: "The Dove II", "A Boy's Pet Dove"

Logo: We begin over a shot of a sky, with a flock of birds pasted on top of it. The footage then slowly fades to a bigger bird outside of the flock, but with the other footage still playing. The flock then fades out, leaving the other bird, with it then leading to a shot at sunset with a boy with his hands out running. The bird then flies in as a shot of the boy smiling briefly appears, with the shot of the boy's hand catching the dove later appearing, with the shot chroma-keyed onto a sky background. The footage then condenses into a white square on a black background, freezing seconds later. In the bottom right corner, sparkles draw in a outline of the "9" from before, which then fills in with white. The broadcasting text then wipes in to the left of it by a light before the screen freezes.

Variants:
  • Sometimes, the square doesn't appear and the text animates over the final shot.
  • A short version exists, either with the aforementioned descriptions above or instead, the background blurs around the shot.
  • Later on, the logo would only show the dove flying, then it landing into the boy's hands. The text types in during the animation, followed by the "9" fading in.

FX/SFX: Live action.

Music/Sounds:
  • A upbeat synth fanfare with an female announcer.
  • Sometimes, the fanfare would be replaced with chimes.
  • The later version had a Spanish choir over a guitar tune.

3rd Logo
(1988-1989)

Nickname: "The Dove III"

Logo: On a zooming space background, the same icon from the 4th logo is seen, except that the dove is simplified and smaller, and the "9" is gigantic. "CANAL" is seen on the top left, while "LIBERTAD" is in the bottom right. It then cuts to a different space background with shining stars and "Primero en Audiencia!" flips in with a underline in a script font. It then flips over to "Primerio en Calidad!" in the same style as the first phrase.

Variant: Sometimes, the logo will instead fly in and the text will fade in. The text here is in Cooper Black and the "9" is blue with an white outline.

FX/SFX: The background, the flipping.

Music/Sounds: The end of the promo with an announcer.

(1988)

Nickname: "The Dove IV"

Logo: On a space background, a rotating model of the Earth appears. From it, a map of Argentina flies away and rests at an angle as a satellite appears and flies over to it. The satellite then shoots out radio wave as the logo appears in the bottom right corner.

Variant: A short version exists.

FX/SFX: The moving of the parts.

Music/Sounds: Just an female announcer.

Availability: Extinct. This was used to celebrate the channel when it started satellital broadcasting.

(1989)

Nicknames: "The Dove V", "The Loud Choir"

Logo: On a dark blue background, there is a large marble frame with a clip playing in it, hovering over a blue grid floor. A white dove emerges from it and flies about as a white "9" flips from the bottom of the floor and the broadcasting text types in beside it. The dove rests above the "9", as the now frozen clip zooms into the screen.

FX/SFX: The clip playing, the logo forming.

Music/Sounds: A very loud choir singing, with applause sometimes at the end.

(1994-1995)


Nicknames: "The Dove VI", "3D Dove"

Logo: We rotate over a light trail with a "9" on a sunny sky. An animated 3D dove flies slighty towards the screen, as the "9" (now colored blue) is leaved in the background with the name "LIBERTAD".

Variants:
  • On a early version, we see the a space background in which stars appear falling in it forming the "9", then the animations plays almost like the same. The flying dove is also omitted.
  • An evening variants exists in which the sky is somewhat red, and the logo at the end may appear a bit inclined or centered.
  • Sometimes the logo at the end appear inclined.

FX/SFX: 3D animation.
