Note: The N of Navystar is no initial. This has a red upside down triangle in the N logo.

1st Logo
(1977-1984)

Nicknames: "Rain", "Cheesy Navystar", "Leo the Lion"

Logo: On a black background filled with dots/"stars" (obviously this is supposed to symbolize space), a large Leo the Lion slowly moves towards us.
It then dissolves into the logo words "NAVYSTAR HOME VIDEO" in probably one of the ugliest fonts ever. The logos then flash and become pure white. After a few seconds the logo dissolves and we are left with only a shot of the stars before we fade out.

Variation: On later Navystar tapes (1983-1984) there is a variation of this logo where instead of the logos dissolving after turning white, the logos fly upward using computer generated effects. This is a very rare, hard-to-find variation.

SFX: The transformation of the Leo the Lion into the Navystar logo...and the "flying" effects for the white logos on the 1983-1984 logo variation.

Cheesy Factor: This one goes off the charts. The Leo the Lion looks like the fakest thing in the world (and looks more like it's raining than anything else!), the colors are gaudy, and the space background looks like it was done on an Apple II.

Music/Sound FX: The space background has plopping/rain noises, with Leo the Lion's roar. When the logo forms, a chord/whoosh sound can be heard.

Availability: Can be seen on early releases by Navystar.

Scare Factor: Median, (the bad animation can get to some people) :) but the logo is probably one of the most rain-like in the world!

2nd Logo
(1984-)

Nicknames: "Swoosh", "CGI Navystar"

Logo: Over a black BG, we see a giant pattern of crystallized N's. The pattern smoothly merges together to form one minimum-sized N as it zooms out. A streak of light glides by to reveal the words "NAVYSTAR HOME VIDEO". A disclaimer appears after that.

Variants: In the 8th release from Navystar Home Video, the logo had computer animated effects. In 1996, the logo was short a la the UA logo. (To be continued)

SFX: The merging and zooming out of the logo and the reveal of the words.

Cheesy Factor: Median; the merging, zooming-out, and it looks kinda cheesy.

Bylines:
1984-1993: The byline is in Arial font.
1993-: After the launch of the 20th Century Fox Logo in 1993, the byline is in Times New Roman font.

Music: The music that was heard on the UA Swoosh logo. Also in the 1987 video release of "Love Connection: The First Year", it has the same as the Program Exchange's first logo.

Availability: Seen on any Navystar releases.

Scare Factor: None.
